One of the two styles of karate taught in Fairbanks is Shotokan, which was founded by Gichin Funakoshi in Okinawa and introduced to Japan in 1916. The basic precept of Shotokan karate is to bring peace by working with each individual who studies it to improve themselves as people. Students of Shotokan follow the dojo kun and the niju kun, which are the principles behind this style of karate. Discussion of these can be found on the ISKF website here.
